Simply put, umbrella insurance  will protect you.  I recently had a client whose employee got in a car accident.  His auto insurance policy payment is not nearly enough to cover his upcoming expenses.  If he had an umbrella insurance (also known as a liability insurance) policy, he would have been protected for so much more.

Insurance terms (and coverages!) can be confusing. In our newest video, Alan takes the time to go through general insurance terminology that any business MUST know and understand when buying health insurance; or any business insurance policy. You also need to have the right information about your company and employees to get a competitive health insurance quote.

Three property and casualty insurance producers from Technology Insurance Associates attended a two week long conference in King of Prussia, PA at the beginning of last month. Producers Daniel Levenson, Jeff Henderson, and Ben Levenson all went to the United States Liability Insurance Group (USLI) conference to learn more about helping businesses control their risks using liability insurance.

USLI specializes in providing liability insurance to low risk industries such as Information technology companies. This was a perfect match for Technology Insurance Associates since so much of their clientele are involved in the IT consulting field.

During the class the producers from technology Insurance Associates interacted and learned from over twenty classmates who work in various areas of the insurance field.

At the end of the class, the producers had a chance to test their presentation skills in a mock presentation dedicated to providing insurance for community churches. Producer Daniel Levenson won the presentation with two of his classmates to earn two hundred Dollars each. When asked what he learned the most from the presentation, Daniel said that he, “learned how to keep control of the presentation and get desirable answers from his prospects.”

Overall the producers viewed the conference as helpful and look forward to more learning opportunities in the future.

I wanted to share a story about one of my clients. He was expanding his IT staffing business and hired a female recruiter /salesperson. This salesperson was emailing and interacting with the client’s operations staff at their offshore operations center. The emails started to turn more and more inappropriate, in a sexual way. The client is not sure who initiated the inappropriate emails but he now sees himself on the other side of a sexual harassment lawsuit. Needless to say the legal costs are great and he is scared to let any of these employee go. There is an insurance product that can protect your company from this type of exposure, Employment Practices Liability Insurance (ELPI). EPLI covers a business against claims by workers of the company, that their legal rights have been violated. Protection is provided against many types of employee lawsuits, including claims of: Sexual Harassment, Discrimination, Wrongful Termination, Breach of Employment Contract, and many others. The policies will reimburse your company against the costs of defending a lawsuit in court and for judgments and settlements. The policy covers legal costs if you win or lose the suit.

To prevent employee lawsuits, educate your managers and employees so that you minimize the problems in the first place. Create effective hiring and screening programs to avoid discrimination in hiring. Post corporate policies throughout the workplace and place them in employee so policies are clear to everyone. Show employees what steps to take if they are the object of sexual harassment or discrimination by a supervisor. Make sure Supervisors know where the company stands on what behaviors are not permissible. Document everything that occurs and the steps your company is taking to prevent and solve employee disputes.  Contact us if you would like to learn more about employment practices liability insurance.
